Actress Anna Maria Trouble made her theatrical debut with a pop version of Jane Austen’s classic “Pride and Prejudice”. The 37-year-old can be seen in her first theater role at the Berlin comedy on Kurfürstendamm. The premiere was on Sunday evening.
With beer cans, disco balls and pop songs, the story of the Bennet family and their daughters is told from the point of view of a maid. Director Christopher Tölle has staged the play “Pride and Prejudice *or so” by author Isobel McArthur.
Known from TV
Trouble was last seen in the series “Totenfrau”. At the theater she now plays Elizabeth Bennet, wearing a denim dress, who refuses to marry only for financial reasons. Her colleagues Birthe Wolter, Nadine Schori, Mackie Heilmann and Johanna Asch switch between many roles and also take on the male characters.
The play has a musical feel to it, with songs like “You’re So Vain,” “If You Leave Me Now,” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” Various locations are indicated with a revolving stage, which the actresses move during the play.
When asked what pride means to her, Trouble previously said that in terms of the play, it’s more of something that prevents a character from being accessible or revealing. But pride can also be something good and important. She teaches her daughter that she should be proud of herself when she has achieved something.
Hundreds of guests came to the premiere on Sunday evening, including the actresses Katja Riemann and Hannah Herzsprung. The comedy on Kurfürstendamm is currently playing in the Theater am Potsdamer Platz – an alternative quarter until a new building on Kurfürstendamm is finished.
