According to the singer of the band Juli, Eva Briegel, other people help in difficult times. “I find meaning and defiance in meeting people and in helping. Not lighting candles or writing a journal. That drives me crazy,” said the 44-year-old musician in an interview with the German Press Agency. July comes from a time when there was no exaggerated trend around your own mental health.
After nine years, the band will release a new album on April 28 – and find themselves in a world that ticks differently than before. “I don’t really like this exaggerated self-care thing,” said Briegel. A healthy awareness of breaking free from what others expect of you is a typical theme in the band’s songs even after all these years. Between 2004 and 2014 the band released a total of four albums. Before the album was released, fans were able to listen to many of the songs from “Der Sommer ist über” (The summer is over) as extracts.
New album after nine years
New and old songs are often about new beginnings, nostalgia, fighting against constraints and bringing yourself back into the moment, described Briegel, who studied psychology in Gießen, among other things. Difficult times cannot be overcome with yoga or basic nutrition, said the singer: “Big crises can only be overcome with a little more community spirit.” It is important to stay in touch with others – even if they have different opinions.
