In his own words, Hollywood star Brendan Fraser is built close to the water. “I’m a big softie,” he told the dpa in Berlin. “I cry at razor commercials.” The 54-year-old is expected in Berlin on Tuesday evening for the screening of the drama “The Whale”. He stars in director Darren Aronofsky’s emotional film – a seriously ill, overweight man named Charlie who, after years of losing contact, wants to reconnect with his daughter. Fraser won an Oscar for it. During his acceptance speech, he – and some guests in the auditorium – had tears in their eyes.
Fraser, who had disappeared from the big screen for several years, celebrated his comeback with “The Whale”. Many fans were enthusiastic about it, for example in social media, where countless memes with Fraser – i.e. funny text-image combinations – were created.
“I appreciate the support,” said the US-Canadian actor in Berlin. He doesn’t use social media himself, but is grateful for the positive effect they could have. It’s an opportunity, but it also comes with responsibility. “And I feel relieved now that I don’t have to prove anything anymore.”
