Release tremors at Disney: The biggest driving forces of the film studio, namely the Marvel franchise and the “Avatar” series, are affected by massive delays in the planned theatrical release. The dates are sometimes pushed back three years, as reported by the industry website “Variety”.
The biggest shifts can therefore be observed in the three upcoming “Avatar” sequels. “Avatar 3” will be moved “only” by one year, in December 2025. Part four should not appear until 2029 and the end of the series in 2031 – three years later than initially communicated. It was actually intended that the major science fiction project with five films would be completed in 2028.
The planned films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) were apparently also cheerfully pushed back and forth. The fans have to be patient for not quite three months longer for Anthony Mackie (44) as the new Captain America: “Captain America: Brave New World” should come to the screen at the end of July 2024 instead of at the beginning of May 2024. As a direct result of this shift, Thunderbolts will now hit theaters in December next year, Blade will move to mid-February 2025, and the Fantastic Four will arrive in early May 2025.
Big setback for all fans of the “Avengers” films: “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty”, which should have been released in May 2025, has been pushed back a whole year to May 2026. With a view to the last “Avengers” strip so far, “Endgame”, a seven-year break will then have passed.
But there is also good news in the MCU, because a particularly bold superhero is pushing ahead: “Deadpool 3”, once again played by Ryan Reynolds (46), will not be released in November 2024 as initially planned. Instead, he will open his shameful mouth again from the beginning of May next year.
From a galaxy far, far away, film fans are also receiving interesting news. A completely new “Star Wars” film has been added for December 2026, so far untitled like all the others. Since another previously announced part was postponed from 2025 to May 2026, hobby Jedi can look forward to two “Star Wars” blockbusters within just six months. In December 2027, the next prank with the lightsaber will follow. From none of these three films is so far known more than the now communicated release date.
