On “Sex and the City” no sheet of paper fit between Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha. Away from the cameras, things didn’t always go as smoothly between the actresses as later became known. After leaving the show, a real mud fight ensued between Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall.

Cattrall was not involved in the first season of the series’ spin-off, “And Just Like That…”. In the season two finale, however, she is said to reprise her role as Samantha Jones – for a cameo appearance. However, she is said to have had no contact with the other stars during this time. Cynthia Nixon has now found some clear words for what it was like to shoot without Cattrall.

She told Vanity Fair that she had read the script of Cattrall Returns but hadn’t seen the episode. She also revealed how she experienced the first season without Samantha.

“It felt very different because we have these new amazing characters, we’re older and our fictional kids are pretty much grown now,” said the Miranda Hobbes actress. “A lot of things felt different. But the main thing that felt so great was that everyone who was there really wanted to be there. That’s the bottom line.”

Cynthia Nixon continued, “We all love each other, we love our show, we wanted to do more of it. And we all wanted to be in it.” It makes a huge difference, the actress said, in not having to “do an egg dance” around a person who is unhappy “for reasons that are difficult to understand.”

In the past, a possible third “Sex and the City” film had failed. At the time, there were rumors that Cattrall had allegedly made demands that the film studio didn’t agree with. Later, when plans for the spin-off And Just Like That… were pitched to Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, the actresses decided they could move on without Samantha because they knew what showrunner Michael Patrick was doing King planned and it was well received, Parker told The Hollywood Reporter in June 2022. She also revealed they didn’t reach out to Cattrall. “She made it clear that she didn’t want to pursue this any further,” Parker said.

In Germany, the new season of “And Just Like That…” can be seen on Sky and the Wow streaming service from June 22nd. The other episodes always appear on Thursdays.
