Roon, a new platform designed to provide video-based medical information, has secured $15 million in funding to enhance its services for doctors and patients. The platform, created by Vikram Bhaskaran, aims to address the challenges of accessing accurate healthcare content online. Bhaskaran, who previously worked at Pinterest, was inspired to create Roon after experiencing difficulties finding reliable information when his father was diagnosed with ALS.
Joined by his friends Arun Ranganathan and Dr. Rohan Ramakrishna, Bhaskaran set out to develop a platform that offers clinically accurate information in an easily accessible format. Roon differentiates itself from traditional health websites by offering video-based Q&As from doctors at renowned institutions. Dr. Ramakrishna highlighted the platform’s ability to allow physicians to share their expertise on a larger scale, answering common patient questions through videos.
Currently, Roon hosts a wide range of videos covering various medical conditions, from ALS to fertility issues. The platform plans to expand its content to include topics in women’s health, pediatrics, and metabolic disorders. Patients benefit from hearing advice from both doctors and individuals managing similar conditions, creating a supportive community.
Bhaskaran describes Roon as a “creator platform for doctors,” emphasizing its role in supplementing appointments with informative videos to improve patient care. While the platform has yet to generate revenue, potential monetization strategies include subscriptions for hospitals, advertisements, or a doctor directory. Forerunner Ventures’ managing partner Eurie Kim, who has personal experience caring for a loved one with cancer, resonated with Roon’s mission of providing valuable medical information to patients.
As Roon continues to grow, its focus remains on building trust through accurate information and quality content. The platform aims to empower both doctors and patients by facilitating meaningful interactions and improving the overall healthcare experience. With its innovative approach to healthcare information delivery, Roon is poised to make a significant impact in the medical field.
