It’s a classic insta video. “We still have visitors today,” chats Jennifer Lopez in the clip uploaded on Monday. So she wanted to go to the store again. But what is intended as self-promotion annoys many of her fans: Lopez does not shop anywhere, but in a liquor store. And uses the way to row back from alcohol-critical statements in the past.
“Many people ask me: You don’t even drink, why are you bringing out your own cocktail brand?” In the clip, she addresses the criticism of many fans of her Delola spritz variant, which was launched in the spring. In order to then distance himself from the old statements. “That was true for a long time. But in the last 10-15 years I’ve had a cocktail occasionally. But I drink responsibly, I don’t get drunk,” the singer justifies with a smile. And then shows up happily shopping for her own range of cocktails.
The promotional video hits the fans twice. On the one hand there is of course the aspect that J.Lo addresses in the clip himself. For years she had been strictly against alcohol and also against smoking and even coffee. They argue that it is bad for your health and bad for your skin. The reactions were correspondingly irritated when Delola brought it onto the market in the spring.
But another aspect is questioned even more in the comments below the clip: She has been married to Ben Affleck since last summer – and he has been publicly struggling with his alcoholism for decades.
“It’s really difficult to listen to her talk about responsible drinking when her husband has been struggling with his alcoholism for years,” said one follower. “Why doesn’t she respect her husband’s sobriety?” asks another the same question. Others not only question the clip, but the whole business idea: “Ben is an alcoholic, it’s a strange time to make money with alcohol,” another. “Promoting a liquor when you’re married to an alcoholic is so weird. Not all money is good money.”
However, there are also advocates. “It’s our problem that we can’t handle the alcohol,” jumps a follower to her side, outing himself as a dry alcoholic. “It’s his problem, not hers,” argues another. “You make it worse if you take responsibility for them.”
The new business seems to be going down well with many other fans. Already in the store, Lopez explains the advantages of her different cocktails to several enthusiastic customers, who of course recognized her. For Independence Day, she shares the stories of numerous fans – who are all busy celebrating with Delola.
