The American singer and actress CoCo Lee is dead. As the star’s sisters announced in a joint Instagram post, Hong Kong-born Lee passed away last Wednesday at the age of just 48. The post from her family said: “On July 2, she attempted suicide at home and was taken to a hospital. Despite the best efforts of the hospital staff to save her and bring her out of the coma, she passed away on July 5. July 2023.”
Lee had suffered from depression for years and was therefore in professional treatment. The statement goes on to say. “As the CoCo family, we feel grateful and honored to have had such an amazing and amazing sister. We thank God for giving us such a wonderful angel.” Lee’s sisters end the post by saying, “Though CoCo didn’t last long in the world, her rays of light will last forever.”
CoCo Lee’s career began 30 years ago. The song “A Love Before Time” from the film “Tiger and Dragon”, which she also performed at the Academy Awards in 2001, was nominated for an Oscar in the category “Best Original Song”. The star released a total of 18 studio and several best-of albums between 1994 and 2013. She also lent her voice to the title character of Disney’s 1998 “Mulan” in the Mandarin version of the animated film.
Lee is survived by her husband, Canadian businessman Bruce Rockowitz, and two stepchildren. Lee and Rockowitz tied the knot in 2011, and Bruno Mars and Alicia Keys, among others, performed at the ceremony.
