Brian May (76) and Roger Taylor (73) have received a very special award. The cult rock band around the late singer Freddie Mercury (1946-1991) has reached the milestone of one billion streams in Great Britain. The two musicians show themselves on Instagram with the so-called BRIT Billion Award, which was presented to them by the Association of the British Music Industry (BPI), which also organizes the BRIT Awards, among other things.
According to a statement on the band’s homepage, some of the most streamed songs include hits like “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Another One Bites The Dust”, “Radio Ga Ga”, “Under Pressure”, “We Are The Champions”, “We Will Rock You”, “Killer Queen” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”.
“We are grateful to all of our fans who support us and continue to enjoy our music,” May said. A billion streams are “incredible,” adds Taylor. “I would like to thank everyone who enjoys our music even a little bit,” he continues. “We’re still here and we hope to be able to entertain you a little. Thank you.”
Queen join a host of other well-known acts with the huge streaming success. ABBA, Coldplay, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Ellie Goulding, Lewis Capaldi, Rita Ora and Sam Smith have already received awards. The award has been presented since May 2023.
