Thomas Müller’s return to Bayern Munich team training has been delayed. The 33-year-old vice-captain will possibly forego the German record-breaking champions’ trip to Asia in favor of training at home.
“It’s going to be tight. We’re currently considering whether it makes sense to build him up there or whether we have more resources and opportunities to build him up again in Munich so that he can start full team training in Asia,” said coach Thomas Tuchel. Müller had prematurely ended FC Bayern’s training camp at Tegernsee. The offensive player completed individual sessions in Munich due to muscular problems in his left hip.
Also struck Choupo-Moting
The German soccer record champion is on the road in Tokyo and Singapore from Monday to August 3rd. It is unclear whether Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who is also ailing and who, according to Tuchel, has pain in his knee joint, will travel to Asia. “Like Thomas, the next few days will show whether that makes sense,” said Tuchel.
At the end of the training week in Rottach-Egern, the 49-year-old was happy that after the newcomers Raphael Guerreiro and Konrad Laimer, Min-jae Kim was also sweating in the team circle. After his military service, however, the Korean is introduced individually.
Neuer trains individually
Manuel Neuer also continued his individual program on a side pitch. The national goalkeeper, who has been absent since breaking his lower leg in December, trained away from the team on a secondary pitch. From the side of the folder, Neuer was informed that the 37-year-old did not want to be filmed or photographed there. It is unclear when Neuer will train with the Munich team again. Contrary to what was originally intended, he will not be able to score away against Werder Bremen when the league starts on August 18th.
“We will train the boys who are absent individually so that they can start training as quickly as possible,” said Tuchel. After his shoulder injury, Mathys Tel took part in training. In the coming days, Matthijs de Ligt should also train with the team again.
Tuchel-Appell and Sané
Meanwhile, Tuchel expects a clear improvement in performance from national player Leroy Sané in the new season. “There’s definitely something to add,” he said. “Leroy has every opportunity, especially physically, to dominate the league and opponents. Ultimately it’s up to him.”
The people of Munich want constant performances at the highest level from Sané, who was committed in the summer of 2020. The 27-year-old alternates too often with top performances and disappointing games. His contract with FC Bayern runs until June 30, 2025. Sané made a great impression during training at Tegernsee.
