It starts in a few hours! Prince Harry’s (38) Invictus Games start in Düsseldorf. Previously he was represented by Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller (52) received. For Harry, who founded the sporting event for disabled soldiers, the program began in the morning.
The prince met with a group of helpers who do their work for the event on a voluntary basis. The Invictus Games Foundation published a group photo from the meeting on X (formerly Twitter). Harry was probably in a good mood, as his broad laugh suggests.
The first Invictus Games took place in London in 2014, and this year the sports competition will be held in Germany for the first time. The royal has a long day ahead of him. Before things start in the evening, Harry will be welcomed by Keller at around 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, together with Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (63) and delegations from the participating countries in the Düsseldorf town hall. There he will also sign his name in the city’s Golden Book.
The opening ceremony begins at 6 p.m. and is also the start of the games, which have the motto “A Home for Respect”. The opening will be moderated by Hadnet Tesfai (born 1979) and Steven Gätjen (50). After the march of the participating nations, there will be, among other things, a video message from Chancellor Olaf Scholz (65), greetings from Keller and speeches from Harry and Pistorius. The rapper Macklemore (40) will end the start with a performance.
However, the day is not over for Prince Harry yet. As was announced at the end of August, he will then visit the “current sport studio” with Pistorius and three participants in the event. The performance can be seen on ZDF from 11 p.m.
The Invictus Games run until September 16th, when there will also be a closing ceremony. Harry is supposed to appear again here. The British singer Sam Ryder (34) and his colleague Rita Ora (32) are planned as acts for the show.
