“I’m doing good, I’m on some new shit”, proclaimed Taylor Swift after exactly 15 seconds of game time, and in terms of her new Album “Folklore” is true in more ways than one. How it corresponds to their Status as perhaps the greatest female pop star in the world, is a new publication of swift’s actually a multi-month promotional drum fire advance, with video shoots, Interviews, and Marketing Gimmicks. “Folklore”, however, is their tenth Studio album, was released Friday at midnight, without a big fuss. Swift announced the Album only a few hours earlier, in the social media.

“Folklore” was spontaneously created, wrote the singer, while the insulation in the corona of a crisis, and therefore, she wanted to release the Album exactly as in the short term, as she had recorded it. Even their own record company should have not said anything. You can now believe or not, but actual Folklore “sounds like” warm, approachable, almost intimate: There are only Swift, the Piano and us. The big Pop moments that has supplied the last on their albums, “Lover”, “Reputation” and “1989”, are now given way to a quiet Folk, and indie pop.

The rain is always there

In the last few months, had radicalized Swift is politically perfect for that, in the election campaign in her home state of Tennessee, interfered, even to the address of the US President, Donald Trump tweeted: “We will get you unelected in November.” Who had now but a political exclamation mark, a few months before the presidential election, will be disappointed. On “Folklore” explores Swift, tell, instead, your Talent for story – not just your own, as the singer in its announcement wrote, but also the stories of the people, “have taken I never, I’ve ever known, or of people, of which I wish I had never met you.”

That the stories have become particularly bleak, is perhaps in the nature of things. “Folklore” sounds like a fairy tale, but more like one of the brothers Grimm than Disney. Loss, nostalgia, repentance are the Central themes of the album. It fits to a singer such as Swift, which itself has a storied past: From the Teen Sensation and “Everybody’s Darling” to a 30-year-old woman, who has made all the drama of the music business and the media world – and of a piece, it is now no matter whether you liked it or not. “The rain is always gonna come if you’re standing with me,” she sings on “Peace”. It is not a complaint, but an observation.

The last of the great dynasty of the

And so Folklore is the “” first and foremost, a collection of tragic stories. The childhood friend, who has a violent father at home (“Seven”). The tormentor, possessed by the object of his desire, even after their death (“My Tears Ricochet”). Or, the millionaire’s wife, Rebekah Harkness, who was despised in the 1950s because of their cheeky nature of the upper layer and the tabloid media (“The Last Great American Dynasty”). Swift makes some Parallels to Harkness, not only because she now lives in the old house of Harkness.

All of these big, heavy issues to tackle, Swift in a way that dominates, hardly anyone except her. The 30-Year-old is perhaps the best songwriter in the Pop business, and your game with the motifs, its language of images, fine sense of Humor stand out on the musical structure of the “Folklore” even more than usual. So it is that Swift, alone in your dark room, your date is probably the best Album ever managed. The corona crisis is over sometime, hopefully – but “Folklore” remains forever.
