Money is a topic that is often better left out – with superficial acquaintances anyway, but also in friendships and even between partners. So definitely not a good topic of conversation for a first date, one would think. However, the influencer Sofia Franklyn sees it completely differently.
The New Yorker doesn’t shy away from supposedly dangerous topics, even at the first meeting. Instead, she immediately speaks plainly, said the 30-year-old (more than 300,000 followers on TikTok) in her podcast. “I’m not kidding: I’ve asked the last three guys I’ve dated about their bank balance on the first date,” she said. She doesn’t think that’s strange, Franklyn says.
When her co-host asked why she was doing this, the influencer bluntly explained her intentions behind it: “Because I only want to date a rich man who has money.” By asking about the account balance, she wanted to quickly find out whether she and the man were “on the same level” or whether she was wasting her time. “I have a job, I’m very successful. I have every damn right to do it,” said Franklyn.
Personality or character seem to play a minor role for them. But what if the date doesn’t want to give out sensitive information so easily at the first meeting? That’s not an exclusion criterion, explains Franklyn, but also makes it clear: “I would go on a second or third date, but at some point I have to know.” Since then, there has been controversy surrounding her dating principles. What seems completely understandable to the influencer is something many of her followers cannot understand. “Even if I had 100 million, I would be gone after five seconds if someone asked me a question like that,” one user commented on her statements.
