She became known worldwide in 2016 with her role as Eleven in “Stranger Things”. Now Netflix star Millie Bobby Brown will soon be seen in her new big role: In “Damsel,” the 19-year-old plays a princess who is supposed to be fed to a fire-breathing dragon by her future family. But unlike in the fairy tale, no prince comes rushing in to help the young woman out of her tricky situation. Instead, Elodie has to assert herself – and fights for her own survival in the dragon’s lair.
The newly released first trailer now gives the first insights into the fantasy hit, which is scheduled to appear on the streaming service Netflix next year. In the clip you can see the princess hiding from the monster in a dark forest. Further scenes then show her in the dragon’s cave trying to escape. She has to climb up cutting-sharp crystal walls, squeeze through narrow tunnels and flee from the red-hot embers of the fire-breathing dragon, while the song “Run for Your Life” by the Beatles plays in the background.
“Wonder Woman” actress Robin Wright and Marvel star Ray Winstone take on the role of the malicious in-laws who want to feed their future daughter-in-law to the dragon “out of tradition” to protect the population. Her son – the handsome Prince Henry – is played by Nick Robinson (“Love, Simon”). Also taking part are “Black Panther” actress Angela Bassett and “The Exanse” actress Shohreh Aghdashloo.
“Wrath of the Titans” author Dan Mazeau is responsible for the script for “Damsel”. Only after the script was published was a novel written for the film: In collaboration with Netflix, “The Crown’s Game” author Evelyn Sky published the novel of the same name this year. This means that “Damsel” is not a film adaptation of a novel in the traditional sense. Spanish producer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo directed the film. After sci-fi/fantasy hits like “Intacto”, “28 Weeks Later” and “Intruders”, it is his fourth production in the genre.
“Damsel” will stream online on Netflix in 2024.
