Angela Lansbury (1925-2022) will soon be seen one last time on the big screen. The British actress, who died on October 11 at the age of 96, has an appearance in the upcoming Netflix movie Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. This is reported, among other things, by the “People” magazine.
Lansbury’s brief appearance in the strip is said to be reminiscent of the series Murder Is Her Hobby, which made the actress famous. Stephen Sondheim, who died in November 2021 at the age of 91, is said to appear in the scene where there is said to be a video call with the detective Benoit Blanc, played by lead actor Daniel Craig (54).
The film’s writer-director, Rian Johnson, 48, paid tribute to Lansbury’s life and career after her death via Twitter. The filmmaker shared a clip of Lansbury from the Broadway play Sweeney Todd, for which she won a Tony for Best Actress in a Musical in 1979. “An absolute legend,” Johnson wrote.
In Germany, Lansbury was best known for her role in the crime series “Mord ist ihr Hobby”. In twelve seasons and 264 episodes from 1984 to 1996 she embodied the crime writer and ex-English teacher Jessica Fletcher, who has to solve real murder cases over and over again.
Lansbury was an actress into old age, most recently in a small role in “Mary Poppins Returns” in 2018. Her other films include The Day of the Wolves (1984), Death on the Nile (1978) and The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965). She also made a name for herself as a voice actress. Especially her work in cartoon classics like “Beauty and the Beast” (1991), “Anastasia” (1997) and “The Last Unicorn” (1982) is unforgettable. In 1995 she was named a Disney Legend.
The “Knives Out” sequel “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” with ex-007 Daniel Craig gets the biggest theatrical release of a Netflix film in the USA to date. The strip will be shown in around 600 US cinemas, according to the streaming service. A release from November 23rd to 29th around Thanksgiving is planned. After that, the film will appear regularly on Netflix on December 23.
“Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” will also be released in cinemas in Germany and numerous other European countries such as Italy, Spain and Great Britain. In “Knives Out 2” Daniel Craig’s detective Benoit Blanc takes on a whole new murder case in Greece. Craig is the only returnee from the first part. The cast of the new film also includes Edward Norton (53), Kate Hudson (43) and Dave Bautista (53).
