He is a real lucky guy: Kürşat Yildrim – known as Chico – won the lottery twice in quick succession, first just under ten million euros, then at least another 1,700 euros. But of course he also knows that a lot of people, also and especially in his immediate vicinity in Dortmund, are anything but well at the moment and that they are grateful for help.
Chico also wants to be there. As the Dortmunder Tafel reports on their Facebook page, Chico supported the helpers in their work on site. He “spontaneously visited the Tafel this morning. He surprised us with a food donation in 150 bags, delivered on three pallets. Chico comes from Nordstadt and he hasn’t forgotten his origins. We call that a great gesture and thank you very much.”
Chico organized and financed the distributed bags himself. A reporter from the “Bild” newspaper who was present quoted him as saying: “It’s food for a week. Also biscuits and chocolate. I want to make people happy in the run-up to Christmas”.
According to the “Bild” newspaper, each bag was worth 30 euros – with 150 bags that makes a donation of 4500 euros. He personally handed over the bags to the needy and gave each and everyone a few friendly words to take with them.
The head of the Dortmunder Tafel, Ansgar Wortmann, also thanked him for the heartfelt campaign. Also via the “Bild” newspaper he said: “These are all things that our customers can really use. You often read that Chico would just throw his money out the window – here he proves that he also has a big heart. We are happy about every donation.”
Chico himself was obviously pleased with the campaign, even though he realizes that his support is just a drop in the bucket. “I try to help a lot, but unfortunately I can’t save the whole world,” he summarizes in an interview with the “Bild” newspaper.
