A British expert has King Charles III. an excellent start in the new office. “His first 100 days couldn’t have gone better,” Craig Prescott from the University of Bangor told the German Press Agency.
The question was what it would be like after 70 years under Queen Elizabeth II with a new monarch. But after the death of his mother, Charles put the task of being king above his personal grief. “Many people were surprised at how smooth the transition was. It was literally like, ‘The Queen is dead, long live the King!'” said the Monarchy Observer.
The Queen died on September 8 at the age of 96, and was immediately succeeded by her eldest son Charles. The king will be in office for exactly 100 days on Saturday (December 17).
From Windsor to London
With Charles, the orientation of the royal family has also shifted, Prescott said. “Buckingham Palace is back at the heart of the monarchy.” Charles is now using the London City Palace regularly again, for example for his weekly audiences with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The Queen had – also because of the corona pandemic – spent the past few years almost exclusively at her country estate Windsor Castle west of London.
“We’re seeing the monarchy opening up. We’re seeing the king on the road,” Prescott said. Charles has appointments in the country almost every day. The 74-year-old complements his wife, king’s wife Camilla (75), perfectly. The couple are still doing some things they’ve done before, like organizing a Christmas tree reception for kids. “They haven’t changed that much – which is a change for the monarchy itself,” Prescott said.
