Warner Bros. has released a first trailer for “Wonka”. In the prequel to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” Timothée Chalamet (27) embodies the young and inventive Willy Wonka, who later became successful with his chocolate and candy factory. In the clip, Chalamet can be seen sporting the iconic purple velvet coat, top hat and walking stick. He is the third Willy Wonka on screen after Gene Wilder (1933-2016) in 1971 and Johnny Depp (60) in 2005.
At the end of the trailer, Hugh Grant (62) can also be seen in what is probably his most unusual role to date. He embodies one of Willy Wonka’s little helpers, a so-called Oompa Loompa. An animated, short creature with orange skin and green hair, Grant performs a dance routine in a jar.
“Wonka” will act as a prequel to the well-known story by author Roald Dahl (1916-1990), before the title character opens his world-famous chocolate factory. Other roles include Oscar winner Olivia Colman (49), Rowan “Mr. Bean” Atkinson (68) and Sally Hawkins (47). “Paddington” director Paul King (45) brings the film to the screen and also wrote the screenplay together with Simon Farnaby (50). “Wonka” is scheduled for release this year before Christmas.
