Installed since the spring of 2018, at two steps from the Opera house, the company FlyView allows tourists to visit Paris in virtual reality. In two years, almost 300, 000 people were able to discover the capital from the sky, thanks to a flight simulator, offering to the visitors an unusual experience of “teleportation” at the top of its most emblematic monuments.

Since its reopening, on 11 July last (containment forces), the place program a new attraction : a visit to immersive of the cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris. The experience is startling. Equipped with a helmet of virtual reality and stereo headphones, sitting on chairs rotating which allow you to return without penalty, one plunges literally in another dimension. And the illusion of entering the building is complete.

Produced by the studio Targo, the film, shot through a system of cameras in 360 degrees, allows the viewer to look in all directions. “It follows that nobody really sees the same thing, because each looks in a different direction,” laughs Antoine Lacarrière, director-general of FlyView.

The shooting began three months before the fire. They resumed after the drama, thanks to drones. The footage, filmed before and after the drama, have been interwoven to achieve the scale of destruction caused by the collapse of a portion of the roof.

This gem of a documentary from ten to eight minutes is the work of two young filmmakers 25 years of age : Chloe Rochereuil and Victor Agulhon. It is they who have convinced Patrick Chauvet, the rector-archpriest of Notre-Dame, accept to become the central character in a film that was originally to be called The Man behind Notre-Dame.

To do this, the two filmmakers have planted their cameras in the nave, in full mass, but also on the steeple of the place of worship. “Their images give access to inaccessible places (such as the sacristy or the attic, ED.) After the fire, their project has taken on another dimension “, issues Sophie Lemonde, responsible for the programming of FlyView. These shots will help, in fact the architects in their work of reconstruction.

For the time being, this film offers a spectacular opportunity to rediscover the cathedral, so surprisingly sensitive. In fact, the emotion alluded to several times in the course of this short film which demonstrate, in addition to the father Chauvet, general Georgelin, responsible for overseeing the work of reconstruction of the cathedral, but also Anne Hidalgo, who tells what she felt, on April 15, 2019, when she saw, through the window of his office, the city hall, the flames rise above the monument.
