The crown ring of the murdered US rapper Tupac Shakur (1971-1996) changed hands on Tuesday for the sum of one million US dollars (approx. 900,000 euros). This was announced by the auction house Sotheby’s in New York City. It had not disclosed the buyer. But he now came out quite casually.
Canadian rap star Drake (36) posted an advertisement for US rapper Travis Scott’s (32) new album “Utopia” on his Instagram stories on Friday. The photo not only read, among other things, “Utopia now available”, as can be seen in the screenshot on “Bild.de”, but also the ring, a special design for Tupac Shakur made of gold, rubies and diamonds.
Tupac Shakur created the ring and commissioned it a few months before his death. It is said that he was inspired by the crowns of the medieval kings of Europe. He wore it during his last public appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards. Lesane Parish Crooks, the rapper’s real name, died on September 13, 1996 in Las Vegas. A few days earlier he attended a boxing match with his friend Mike Tyson (57). After an argument with gang members, his BMW was riddled with numerous gunshots at a red light. The artist succumbed to his injuries in a hospital five days later. To date, the crime has not been fully elucidated.
To this day, Tupac Shakur is considered one of the most influential rap artists of all time. He sold more than 75 million records worldwide. Born in New York, he released five studio albums during his lifetime, and five more long-players with unreleased recordings by Tupac were released posthumously.
