27 years after the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur (1971 – 1996), there is a new development: As several US media outlets consistently report, a suspect was arrested early Friday morning in connection with the musician’s still unexplained death. Among other things, the US portal “TMZ” reports that a man named Duane Keith “Keefe D” Davis (60) was taken into custody by the police. It is not yet known what accusations he will face.
However, the fact that Davis is involved in the Tupac murder case is nothing new. According to TMZ, he has already admitted in several interviews and also in his book “Compton Street Legend” that he was sitting in the Cadillac from which the bullets were fired at the rapper. The report also states that police searched Davis’ wife’s home in Las Vegas with a search warrant in July. Some new evidence was confiscated.
In July 2023 it became known that the police had reopened the investigation into the famous murder case. Tupac Shakur was critically injured in a shooting on September 7, 1996 at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Koval Lane. He died of his injuries six days later at University Medical Center. He had previously watched a boxing match between Mike Tyson and Bruce Seldon at the MGM Grand. While leaving the hotel, he is said to have gotten into an argument with gang members. While his BMW was waiting at a red light, a white Cadillac pulled up next to him. Several shots were fired at the BMW, four of which hit the musician.
Tupac was one of the most successful rappers of the 1990s and is still seen as one of the most influential rap artists ever. He was also successful in the acting business at this time, with films like “Poetic Justice” alongside Janet Jackson (57). Born in East Harlem, Tupac became a central figure in West Coast hip-hop. His biggest hits included songs like “All Eyes on Me” and “California Love.”
In 2017 he was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On June 8, 2023, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His sister Sekyiwa Shakur (48) explained that her late brother’s dream had come true.
