Pop star Tony Marshall (1938-2023) is dead. The singer died on Thursday evening (February 16). This was announced by a spokeswoman for his family, according to consistent media reports. On February 3rd he celebrated his 85th birthday. Marshall was one of the most famous pop singers in Germany.

Tony Marshall was born Herbert Anton Bloeth in Baden-Baden in 1938. The trained opera singer celebrated his big breakthrough in 1971 with the title “Schöne Maid”. Other hits like “Come on, give me your hand”, “On the road to the south” and “Bora Bora” followed and made him one of the most successful pop singers in Germany. In the course of his career, he sold around 20 million records and was considered the “nation’s mood maker”. The singer also shone in theater productions such as “The Magic Flute”.

In the end, his health bothered him. He suffered from the nervous disease polyneuropathy, as became known in 2012. In addition, the singer had a stroke in 2019 and became seriously ill with Covid-19. He had to have an emergency operation in May last year. Despite the problems, he released his album “The Last Dream” in 2021. In 2022 he was on stage for the last time.
