20 years after the end of “Real” you made a film about your youth. How did that happen? The five of us try to meet at least once a year, which is not easy to coordinate between jobs and families. In February 2022, we had a boozy evening and realized that we never did anything with the video footage we filmed when we were young. We’ve done that now and thanks to the films we see each other a lot more regularly now, which is nice.
They viewed 240 hours of video material. How did you decide which scenes to show? There are many music documentaries in which the band members tell their heroic stories. That’s exactly what I didn’t want. Sometimes it was tiring to listen to five sixteen-year-olds talking stupid things for half an hour in the videos. But I didn’t try to make us look cooler than I felt when I watched the tapes. When writing the script, I based it on the stories that I like to tell the people I love. For example, my wife, who I met after “real time”.
