The presenter legend Thomas Gottschalk (72) has no desire for B-celebrities on the “Wetten, dass ..?” couch. In an interview with the Bayern media group, which was published in the “Donaukurier”, among others, Gottschalk spoke about his ideas about the star cast in the ZDF Saturday evening show.
“I’m often at odds with the editors,” Gottschalk openly admits. He wants guests who “were talked about yesterday and will be talked about tomorrow”. Many young colleagues now have different standards, according to the TV icon. “But I don’t want ‘B-celebrities’ and ‘reality stars’, but timeless icons,” explains Gottschalk. But these are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
Thomas Gottschalk resigned from his position as “Wetten, dass..?” presenter in 2011. After two years with Markus Lanz as host, the show was discontinued. A show designed as a one-off comeback followed in 2021, but it attracted 15 million people in front of the TV sets. A little later it became known that “Wetten, dass..?” will definitely be produced with Gottschalk in 2022 and 2023. “Bet that..?” will flicker across screens on November 19, 2022 at 8:15 p.m. for the second time since the celebrated comeback last year.
Gottschalk says about the success of the new edition: “A TV miracle in times like these.” He believes that people, now more than ever, long for community experiences that they can share with others. “Bet that..?” obviously still appeal to all age groups and social classes. It was a success of the audience to take the show back into the program.
