The Weeknd (33) is the first musician in Spotify history to reach 100 million monthly listeners. The streaming service has now announced this. A social media post said: “It’s official: On February 27th, The Weeknd became the first artist in Spotify history to reach 100 million monthly listeners.” The 33-year-old already holds the record for the most-played song of all time on Spotify: the hit “Blinding Lights” has been played 3.4 billion times.

Miley Cyrus, 30, currently ranks second in Spotify’s ranking for most monthly listeners on the service, with over 82 million. Taylor Swift (33) comes third with 80 million, followed by Rihanna (35) with 79 million.

The Spotify record for The Weeknd comes shortly after releasing a new remix of “Die For You” with Ariana Grande (29). The song from 2016 had recently become a hit on TikTok. The Canadian artist has released five studio albums in the past decade, ranging from 2013’s ‘Kiss Land’ to 2022’s ‘Dawn FM’.
