In Germany, around four million visitors have seen the film in the cinema so far – it is currently at the top of the cinema charts.

Although “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” had received some rather bad reviews beforehand, it broke several records on the Easter weekend. In the USA alone, he played the equivalent of around 187 million euros. A total of 346 million euros came together in the first five days. “Mario” had the most successful theatrical release of all time in both the video game film adaptation category and the animated film category. Previously, the respective record holders were “Warcraft” and “Frozen 2”.

The film tells the story of two brothers, Mario and Luigi, who open a plumbing business in Brooklyn, New York. As they climb into a sewer to fix plumbing, they are sucked into a mysterious pipe and separated from each other. Both end up in strange worlds where they meet other Nintendo characters.
