The well-known US television presenter Bob Barker, who hosted the hit quiz show “The Price Is Right” for decades, is dead. Barker died of natural causes at his home in Hollywood, said his spokesman Roger Neal. The show host was 99 years old.
Over the course of his long TV career, Barker has been recognized with 19 Emmy awards. In 1976 he was immortalized with a star on Hollywood’s “Walk of Fame”.
Barker, who initially worked in radio, became the host of the TV show “Truth or Consequences” in 1956. From 1972 he led the popular quiz show “The Price Is Right” for 35 years. He had his last appearance as a moderator there in 2007 at the age of 83.
The show master was also known as a committed animal rights activist. A longtime Miss America pageant host, around 1987 he refused to host a show if the contestants wore real furs. The organizers of the competition then gave in, the contenders for the title of Miss USA ran across the stage with artificial furs.
