The apocalypse is closer than you might think, because the new drama series “The Last of Us” will be available from mid-January 2023. HBO and Sky have now announced this. The production premieres in the US on January 15 on HBO Max. In the night of January 16, the new series can also be seen in Germany on Sky and on the streaming service Wow, parallel to the US broadcast.

The HBO series is based on the video game “The Last of Us”, which was originally released in 2013 and can definitely be described as a masterpiece. For many it is one of the most moving gaming adventures of the last decade. Therefore, series fans in particular who know the game and its successor “The Last of Us Part II” should be excited about the implementation.

In “The Last of Us” the rough Joel travels through the post-apocalyptic USA with the young Ellie. In the series, too, little will change in principle. Around twenty years after the collapse of civilization, Joel, played by Pedro Pascal (47), is supposed to smuggle Ellie (Bella Ramsey, 19) out of a quarantine zone. However, what seems like a small job soon turns into a perilous journey where they have to deal with zombie-like creatures that are not the only danger.

HBO and Sky released the first trailer for the new series in September. In addition to Ramsey and Pascal, the first season, which includes nine episodes, also features Gabriel Luna (39), Anna Torv (43) and Nick Offerman (52). Also playing are Ashley Johnson (39) and Troy Baker (46), who gave Ellie and Joel in the template and its successors. Neil Druckmann (43), the leading creative mind behind the video games, is also on board as executive producer, as is Craig Mazin (51, “Chernobyl”).
