The series debut of superstar The Weeknd (33) is getting closer. Sky Germany has released a new trailer for “The Idol”. The HBO production with Johnny Depp’s (59) daughter Lily-Rose Depp (23) starts on June 5, 2023 on Sky Q and the in-house streaming service WOW.
Lily-Rose Depp plays young singer Joss, who, after suffering a nervous breakdown, tries to reinvent herself as “a bad, bad pop girl,” as the trailer puts it. She falls under the spell of Tedros (The Weekend). The nightclub owner is something of a lifestyle guru who sees pop music as “the ultimate Trojan horse.” To smuggle what exactly into the heads of whom, the teaser leaves open. However, concerned employees fear that Tedros Joss would have “brain washed”.
The Weeknd, who has just been named the world’s most popular artist by the Guinness Book of Records because of his Spotify hits, co-wrote his series debut himself. Abel Tesfaye, as the singer’s real name is, teamed up with Sam Levinson (38). The “Euphoria” creators are producing and directing all episodes of “The Idol.” The influence of his other hit HBO series is clearly visible in the trailer. Sex, drugs and hedonism intended to cover up an emptiness.
The Weekend made his acting debut in 2019’s Uncut Gems. In the Netflix film, however, he played himself alongside Adam Sandler (56). Incidentally, alongside him and Lily-Rose Depp, Anne Heche (1969-2022), who died in a car accident last year, can be seen in her last series role.
