It has been known since November 2022: The 49-euro ticket is coming. The federal and state governments have now agreed on a date. The monthly ticket for local public transport is to be introduced on May 1, 2023, as NRW Transport Minister Oliver Krischer (53, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) announced at the Transport Ministers’ Conference on Friday after the meeting of a federal-state working group.

The FDP party leader Christian Lindner (44) also said via Twitter: “Germany-wide, digital and reality from May 1st: The start of the Deutschlandticket is now certain – the largest public transport tariff reform in the history of Germany.” Ticket sales are scheduled to start on April 3rd.

Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (52) also made a statement on the implementation of the new Germany ticket: “In less than a year we have launched something that will fundamentally modernize public transport. This is real progress for our country.”

From May 1st, rail passengers will have the opportunity to use local transport services throughout Germany for EUR 49 a month, with no regional differences. An additional ticket is then no longer necessary. The subscription can also be canceled on a monthly basis.
