The final season of the Netflix series “The Crown” is said to end with the wedding of Charles (74) and Camilla (75). The current king and his wife, then Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, tied the knot in 2005. As the British “Daily Mail” reports, citing insiders, the series creators hope that the critics will also fall silent with this positive ending.
The award-winning production, which retells the life of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) and her family, has recently faced a lot of opposition. A controversy erupted at the start of season five when prominent figures criticized the portrayals of the characters and demanded a hint to viewers that the series is fictional. In the sixth season, Princess Diana’s (1961-1997) fatal car accident becomes the subject. The first pictures from the set again caused critical voices who feared that the circumstances of death would be shown in too much detail.
According to the report, the shooting of Charles and Camilla’s wedding is scheduled to take place this week in the cathedral in York – and therefore not at the original location. The second wedding of the current monarch was celebrated on April 9, 2005 in Windsor. After the civil ceremony at the town hall there was a service in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
In the sixth and final season of “The Crown” Charles is again played by actor Dominic West (53), Olivia Williams (54) plays Camilla.
A source told the Daily Mail that for the past few months it has looked like the show is planning to stir up trouble “by heartlessly telling the story of Diana’s death, unnecessarily angering Princes William and Harry.” Now one hopes at Netflix that the perception will change with the positive ending. “Charles and Camilla’s wedding is going to be a real celebration,” it says about the alleged end of the series. The source added: “It also fits in well with the king’s coronation year.”
