“Tagesthemen” presenter Aline Abboud is taking maternity leave. On Sunday evening she said on the ARD show on Erste that she was swapping the “Tagesthemen” table with the changing table. The “Tagesthemen” is one of the best-known news programs on German television, is produced by the public broadcaster ARD in Hamburg and shown on the community program Das Erste.
In addition to Abboud, the “Tagesthemen” moderator team consists of Ingo Zamperoni and Jessy Wellmer (Caren Miosga’s successor). According to the Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), which is responsible for ARD, Abboud will be represented by “Tagesschau” spokeswoman Julia-Niharika Sen. The second editor-in-chief of ARD-aktuell, Helge Fuhst, will also step in.
Sen was quoted by NDR as saying: “I think it’s great to soon be able to look more often at the exciting stories behind the current – often complicated and sometimes cumbersome – news. And I’m looking forward to discussing the topics we cover in the “Tagesschau “We can often only briefly outline, to go into more depth, to make it even more understandable and, where things get difficult, to follow up.”
