In the dreaded makeover episode of “Germany’s Next Top Model” not only the model candidates left their hair this year. Show boss Heidi Klum also had a – at least halfway – new hairstyle in the episode that was broadcast on Thursday evening. “Snip snap, hair off,” said the 49-year-old, who also posted her before and after pictures on Instagram.

But while she remained blonde and long-haired and the changes were limited, some of her candidates were hit much harder. Anya (19) from Berlin, for example, has to exchange her long mane for a short hairstyle – which she doesn’t like and later leads to some discussions in the model villa with the young woman, who her competitors have identified as the problem candidate.

The 18-year-old Selma previously had long brown hair and, after the makeover, short pink hair, but after a few tears she wears it with amazing composure and is finally even reconciled with the change in type.

A candidate resists

However, 20-year-old Sarah from Osnabrück does not even take the risk of short, pink hair. She refuses the makeover and leaves the show because no one wants to guarantee her hair will be at least shoulder length.

The blind approval of the makeover is always mandatory in every season. Freely based on cult juror Bruce Darnell: No new hairstyle, no competition. “No, then I’m out,” says Sarah – and thus decides against the competition. “I’d rather stay true to myself.”

Her departure is a moment of shock in the episode – not only for Selma, who sums it up like this: “Twice as stupid: I get hair that I didn’t want – and Sarah leaves.” When the big decision at the end of the candidates – despite training with supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio (41) – lacked timing and concentration, Klum was a bit dismayed: “You all do what you want here.”
