Musician Gabriel Kelly impressed with his talent for movement on the RTL show “Let’s Dance” and danced his way into the circle of favorites. The 22-year-old son of musician Angelo Kelly – known for the family band The Kelly Family (“An Angel”) – impressed at the start of the 17th season of the format with an elegant and self-confident Viennese waltz. The reward was 18 points from the jury – the highest score of the entire evening. Since the spectators were apparently also impressed and cast enough votes, Kelly secured the so-called direct ticket. This means he cannot be eliminated from the next episode of “Let’s Dance”.

In the opening broadcast, dances from the 14 new celebrity candidates competing this year were seen for the first time. Nobody has been thrown out of the show yet, but the first performances are a good indicator of who could fight for victory in the coming weeks. It was also determined which celebrity would train with which professional dancer and compete in the competition.

Gabriel Kelly, who is musically dedicated to rap music, was not only light-footed on the floor (juror Motsi Mabuse: “You were totally relaxed.”), but also self-ironic. “I’m Kelly for this year,” he said when he was introduced – a reference to the fact that members of his well-known extended family have often appeared on television shows and also on “Let’s Dance”. He described his appearance with a smile as “the Kelly face”. “If you know one, you know them all.”

In the first episode, the jury ranked musician Lulu (31) and choreographer Detlef Soost (53) behind Gabriel Kelly. On the other hand, things went pretty poorly for entrepreneur Tillman Schulz (34), who finished in last place and had to listen to juror Joachim Llambi saying: “The rhythm was your enemy.”
