During their investigations, the Dresden “Tatort” investigators Karin Gorniak (Karin Hanczewski) and Leonie Winkler (Cornelia Gröschel) are dealing with a difficult witness: 14-year-old Talia (Hannah Schiller) surprised the murderer shortly after the crime, but can’t remember correctly. Because the student has been suffering from parasomnia since her mother died in an accident a few years ago – she wakes up at night, walks in her sleep and sees the ghosts of deceased women. When the investigators find out that other women were also killed in the house, they take the girl’s visions seriously.

The human psyche can develop various protective mechanisms to protect traumatized people from mental injuries. The “Tatort” episode “Parasomnia” indicates the excesses this can have in the minds of children.

The “crime scene” has already tried the horror genre several times. Very successful in 2019 in the episode “Attack on Guard 08” with Ulrich Tukur, where a horde of zombies attacked a police station. In “Parasomnia” too, the undead haunt the house – but in the end the makers don’t dare to turn this thriller into a horror film. In the end, there’s a rational explanation for everything, which quickly lets the magic dissipate.

There is little evidence of teamwork among the people of Dresden. Because although Leonie Winkler has built up a basis of trust with the distraught Talia, the investigator initially refuses to question the girl. She shies away from responsibility – and thus encounters little understanding from her colleague Gorniak.

If you’re expecting a classic crime thriller, you’d better stay away. But friends of horror shockers don’t really get their money’s worth here either. Ultimately, there are few people who can recommend this “crime scene” with a clear conscience.

The “Tatort” episode “Parasomnia” was first aired on November 15th. aired in 2020. ARD will repeat the film on Sunday, July 9 at 8:15 p.m.
