The host of the TV talk show “3nach9”, Giovanni di Lorenzo, has been hypnotized in front of the camera. “I’m a bit foggy,” said the editor-in-chief of “Zeit” during the experiment. The mentalist Timon Krause performed the hypnosis in the pre-recorded Radio Bremen program, which will be broadcast on several third-party programs this Friday at 10 p.m. “I’ll take care of you,” Judith Rakers promises her fellow moderator, before he reacts directly to Krause’s instructions on his chair in the studio on the Weser and actually falls into a kind of trance during the hypnosis.
“I’ll take care of you,” promises Judith Rakers
During this “impressive demonstration” (Rakers), di Lorenzo remains responsive, but at the same time he admits: “I’m a bit foggy.” In addition, he does not know exactly whether he is present at all, only to add: “But I’m there, yes.” When asked after the hypnosis was released, to what extent he was at the mercy of the mentalist, di Lorenzo replies: “It’s a bit difficult to answer, but I would say: I wasn’t completely incapacitated.”
That’s what the mentalist says
Timon Krause explains: “Hypnosis has a lot to do with creative thinking and with associative thinking. And quite contrary to what is generally assumed, according to which the ‘weak’ and ‘dumb’ are easy to hypnotize, it is exactly the opposite: People, who often have above-average intelligence, are easier to hypnotize because they bring this associative thinking with them.”
The whole thing is basically something similar to meditation or autogenic training and, moreover, “not a state, but an interpersonal process in which critical thinking is circumvented for a brief moment”. Giovanni di Lorenzo concludes by prophesying a good night’s sleep: “As soon as you fall into your bed, you’ll have a restful night’s sleep like you haven’t had in a long time and start the day full of energy tomorrow.”
