The fact that her son Damian (16) moved to his father in Denmark about three years ago and no longer goes in and out of his Hamburg nursery apparently still bothers Sylvie Meis (45). “Honestly, I miss him every day,” says the presenter in an interview with “Gala” presenter Annika Lau (44).
His room is still exactly as he left it, “because when he’s with me, of course he loves that his room is still the same,” Meis continues. However, since her gym, which she uses every day, is close to Damian’s room, she looks at his door every day, “where all his photos are still hanging. […] Yes, I always miss him a lot.”
The pain of separation is particularly great on Mother’s Day or on her birthday, when Damian cannot always be there. “These are the moments when I realize my normal everyday life with Damian will not come back,” says Meis. It was “tough” and to this day she “struggles with tears from time to time,” she admits.
Damian has been living with father Rafael van der Vaart (40), his new girlfriend Estavana Polman and his half-sister in Denmark for three years to further his football career there. Sylvie Meis was married to van der Vaart from 2005 to 2013.
