It’s now been over four years since the last “Star Wars” was released in cinemas, “The Rise of Skywalker”. However, the conclusion of the so-called “Skywalker saga” was not met with universal approval by the worldwide cinema audience – and was also disappointing at the box office by “Star Wars” standards. For “Star Wars 9” star Daisy Ridley (31), these fan reactions are obviously still a sore point. “It’s still annoying,” the British actress revealed on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast.

Was it because of the predecessor “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” which was not particularly well received by director Rian Johnson (50)? Or maybe the actual story of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” with the controversial return of Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid, 79), who was believed to be dead? Either way, “Star Wars 9,” which was released at Christmas 2019, only grossed $1.07 billion at the box office, making it the lowest-grossing part of the so-called sequel series that began in 2015 with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Trilogy.

Lead actress Ridley, who appeared in all parts of the trilogy, says the lukewarm reaction from “Star Wars” fans is still giving her pause. “You don’t want people to feel like you didn’t give them what they’re a fan of,” Ridley said. The 31-year-old also points out that the previously released “Star Wars 8” was already “so polarizing” after cinema audiences positively received “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Despite these fan reactions, Ridley will continue to appear in front of the camera for another “Star Wars” film in the future. The as yet untitled project by director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (45) is set to take place 15 years after “The Rise of Skywalker” and will continue to tell the story of Ridley’s character Rey Skywalker, who has now become a complete Jedi master.

“I’m looking forward to doing the job,” Ridley told Variety magazine about her upcoming film project. The film story devised by filmmaker Obaid-Chinoy is “absolutely cool”. There is currently no official release date for what is likely to be the next “Star Wars” movie.
