Whenever she’s in Berlin, Maite Kelly drops by her favorite antiquarian bookshop on Gendarmenmarkt. Then she looks for historical children’s books, which occasionally find their way between hand-colored copper engravings, between color lithographs by Chagall or first editions by Goethe. Today she is lucky. “Wonderful,” she exclaims after a short rummage, holding a children’s book from 1948, a colorfully illustrated world from the darkness of the post-war period. 25 euros, is bought.
