Singer Paul Simon (81) gets a lot of inspiration for songs or albums in his dreams. “I started working on ‘Seven Psalms’ in 2019 after dreaming about a seven-song album,” the singer said on Sunday (local time) at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). There, Simon presented the world premiere of the documentary “In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon” to an enthusiastic audience.
Director Alex Gibney’s three-hour film covers Simon’s decades-long career, his collaboration with Art Garfunkel and the success of the album “Graceland.” Gibney also discusses personal matters, such as Simon’s hearing loss in his left ear, which upset his musical balance and made working on “Seven Psalms” difficult. “I haven’t fully come to terms with it yet, but I’m starting to accept it,” Simon explained in a question-and-answer session after the premiere.
When asked if he was writing anything new, the singer replied: “The other day I dreamed again, and it was a song called ‘It’s What’s His Name,'” Simon said.
