The Kansas City Chiefs’ victory parade in their hometown, three days after their victory against the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, was ended early due to an act of violence.

As the police announced on X, formerly Twitter, shots were fired on the sidelines of the event. One person was killed and 10 to 15 others were injured, some seriously, said police chief Stacey Graves in a press conference that was broadcast on Twitter. Two armed suspects were arrested.

Previously, thousands of fans, mostly dressed in red, celebrated the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory in the city. The city administration estimated the number of spectators at over a million. The shots were fired west of Union Station near the parking garage. People were urged to leave the area as quickly as possible. Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes (28) spoke on X with three folded hands and the words: “I’m praying for Kansas City.”

The incident is said to have occurred towards the end of the victory celebration. Travis Kelce (34) also took part in the parade, but is said to have shown up without his girlfriend Taylor Swift (34). At the time of the shooting, he and his colleagues were standing on open buses in which they presented themselves to cheering spectators. The entire team is safe, assured the city’s mayor, Quinton Lucas.
