In the summer, Canadian pop star Shawn Mendes (24) had to cancel the rest of his world tour and go into therapy for mental health problems. Now he spoke up in a detailed interview with the “Wall Street Journal” and also addressed his state of health. “The development was very difficult,” explains Mendes. He has done many therapies since the summer and tried to help and heal himself. He also focused on people in his life who would have helped him.
“It was a lot of work, but I think the last year and a half has been the most enlightening, fastest growing and most beautiful healing process of my life,” says the musician. Above all, he is grateful to the people who treated him lovingly, kindly and understandingly during this phase. With the cancellation of the tour, he set a limit so as not to become an unfriendly person. However, it wasn’t easy: “It’s a difficult thing. It feels uncomfortable.” Ultimately, however, the decision was powerful and helpful.
He has now reached a point where he wants to work on new music. Mendes feels ready to “write a few songs”. That’s exciting for him. In the conversation he also addresses his new look, which is also related to his problems. He parted with his distinctive curls and now wears his hair razor short. A kind of new beginning for him: “I just felt the need to shake myself up a little.” He also believes: “Everyone should know what he looks like with a shaved head.”
