At the end of the month, “Babylon Berlin”, one of the currently best German series, will continue in the ARD media library. Meanwhile, the fourth season of the highly entertaining teen series “Sex Education” is starting on Netflix, while Amazon Prime Video is launching two series offshoots of successful productions.
The most exciting new series and series seasons of September at a glance.
The partially revolutionary Netflix series “Sex Education” returns to the streaming service on September 21 with the fourth and unfortunately final season. In the new episodes, Moordale’s alumni find themselves navigating the progressive Cavendish Sixth Form College following the closure of their school. Otis (Asa Butterfield, 26) wants to open a new sex clinic there, while Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood, 29) is taking an art class for the first time. In the USA, Maeve (Emma Mackey, 27) enjoys her life at the renowned Wallace University, but Otis longs for his great love from afar…
From 2019, Netflix hit the zeitgeist with the highly entertaining and smart teen series “Sex Education”. Mostly uninhibited, the Moordale students live their sexualities to the fullest on the show — though the usual puberty issues still occasionally crop up. Newcomers in season four include British actress Jodie Turner-Smith (“Queen
John Wick’s professional killer world is getting bigger: in addition to the four cinema films with superstar Keanu Reeves (58) and the spin-off cinema film “Ballerina” that will be released next year, the three-part series “The Continental”.
Originally produced for the US streaming service Peacock, the miniseries is about a young Winston Scott (Colin Woodell, 31). In New York in the 1970s, the character played by Ian McShane (80) in the “John Wick” films still has to fight for control of the legendary assassin Hotel Continental. Old star Mel Gibson (67) plays the villain of the series.
The nerve-wracking World War II series “Das Boot” returns to screens on September 23 with the final, fourth season. In the new episodes, Klaus Hoffmann (Rick Okon, 34) finds his way back to the German Reich and tries to influence the course of the war as a submarine commander. Meanwhile, his sister Hannie (Rosalie Thomass, 36) makes it her mission to help the many war orphans. In doing so, however, she uncovers infamous machinations of the Nazi regime. Resistance to the Nazis is growing in the Kriegsmarine, and the brutal submarine warfare in the Mediterranean Sea in 1943 comes to a head.
Once again, the German hit series “Das Boot” presents claustrophobic submarine battles that are based on the great cinema model of the same name from 1981. A number of prominent new cast members strengthen the cast of the series. Among others, Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht (33), Lara Mandoki (33) and Stefan Murr (47) are new in season four.
After a long break, the fourth season of the grandiose historical series “Babylon Berlin” will be released on September 29 with Liv Lisa Fries (32) and Volker Bruch (43) in the leading roles. The new episodes began on New Year’s Eve 1930/31. A bloody war for supremacy in the Reich capital breaks out in the Berlin underworld, while Charlotte Ritter (Fries) discovers a mysterious vigilante organization. Meanwhile, brutal SA thugs are marauding in Berlin, one of their aims being to intimidate the free press.
The fourth season of “Babylon Berlin” already ran last fall on Sky and its streaming service Wow. In the linear ARD program, the new episodes start on October 1st. Despite Sky’s withdrawal from the production of its own series, the celebrated show is to be continued with a fifth season in the future.
The spin-off “Gen V”, which starts on September 29th, is likely to be just as macabre, bloody and dark as the parent series “The Boys”. The superhero spoof is set at Godolkin University, a college raising the next generation of heroes for the evil Vought Corporation. In addition to typical student party antics, the main characters Marie (Jaz Sinclair, 29), Emma (Lizze Broadway, 25) and Andre (Chance Perdomo, 26) quickly realize that something sinister is going on at their school.
“Gen V” takes place at the same time as the yet-to-be-released fourth season of “The Boys.” Some characters from the successful series, such as superhero A-Train (Jessie T. Usher, 31), will also appear as guest stars in the series spin-off. The plots of both shows should also be linked in terms of content, so that the overarching story of “The Boys” can ultimately only be followed by those who have also seen the spin-off “Gen V”. A trailer gets you in the mood for the crazy series fun.
