Scarlett Johansson (38) plays the leading role in a series for the first time. As “Deadline” reports, Amazon Prime Video has signed the actress for the mini-series “Just Cause”. Johansson is also on board as an executive producer on the project.

“Just Cause” has a very special meaning for Scarlett Johansson. The series is based on the novel of the same name by John Katzenbach (72), which was sold in bookstores in Germany under the title “Der Sumpf”. “Just Cause” was filmed in 1995, and we released the adaptation under the title “In the Swamp of Crime”. The young Scarlett Johansson was also part of the cast – it was one of the first roles for the actress, who was born in 1984.

In the film “In the Swamp of Crime” Scarlett Johansson embodied the daughter of the main character played by Sean Connery (1930-2020). Connerys Paul Armstrong is a liberal law professor who wants to save an allegedly innocent African American man convicted of murder from the electric chair.

In the original novel, however, the protagonist is a journalist. And in the series adaptation, he becomes a journalist, played by Scarlett Johansson. Madison “Madi” Cowart is assigned to cover a prisoner’s final days for a Florida newspaper. She doubts his guilt.

For Scarlett Johansson, the series is another important career step after she is no longer active as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She is currently shooting the film “Project Artemis” for Apple TV with “Avengers” colleague Chris Evans (41). “Asteroid City” by cult director Wes Anderson (53) is already in the can.
