The well-known US presenter Wendy Williams (59) has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia – a disease that affects language and communication skills. Actor Bruce Willis (68) also suffers from it. The team around Williams made the TV star’s diagnosis a few days before the release of the documentary “Where Is Wendy Williams?” known. It will be shown on the US channel Lifetime.
Wendy Williams has apparently been struggling with health problems for a long time: “People” magazine reports that the 59-year-old allegedly went to a facility for treatment in April 2023 because of “cognitive problems”. At that time, filming of her documentary was apparently stopped.
“Over the past few years, questions have been raised at times about Wendy’s ability to process information, and many have speculated about Wendy’s condition, particularly when she began losing words, acting erratically at times and having difficulty understanding financial transactions,” explained her team now in a statement.
It goes on to say that they want to correct “inaccurate and hurtful rumors about her health condition”: “The decision to share this news was difficult and was made after careful consideration, not only to promote understanding and compassion for Wendy, but also to “To raise awareness of aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.”
According to the statement, Wendy Williams was diagnosed last year. There is hope, her team says, “that with early detection and much more empathy, the stigma associated with dementia will be eliminated and those affected will receive the understanding, support and care they deserve and need.” Wendy Williams is still able to do many things herself. “Most importantly, she has retained her trademark sense of humor and is receiving the care she needs to ensure she is protected and her needs are met. She is grateful for the many kind thoughts and well wishes that have come be sent to her.”
Williams is one of the most famous talk show hosts in the USA. From 2008 to 2022 she hosted “The Wendy Williams Show”. She is also successful as an author and entrepreneur.
