In the case of the missing actor Julian Sands (1958-2023) there is now sad certainty. The 65-year-old Briton is dead. This was confirmed by the Californian San Bernardino County coroner on June 27. A body found on June 24 on so-called Mt. Baldy could therefore be clearly identified as that of Sands. The cause of death has not yet been clarified, the results of further investigations are pending.

At around 10:00 am on June 24, hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Station after discovering human remains in the wilderness near the mountain in California. Police forces then recovered the body and transferred it to the coroner.

At this point, it was already suspected that it could be Sands. The longtime actor, best known for roles on “Ocean’s 13” and “Leaving Las Vegas,” has been missing since the beginning of the year. He was last seen leaving for a hike in the mountains north of Los Angeles. Sands never returned and was reported missing in mid-January. He was considered an avid hiker and mountaineer.

Local authorities had warned hikers in January not to want to climb the mountain. The conditions at the time were “extremely dangerous” due to strong winds, storms, snow and ice. The local emergency services were therefore alerted 14 times in the previous month because of missing or injured people.
