Queen Elizabeth II was known for her love of horses. She was regularly spotted at horse races, especially when her own animals competed. The monarch bred her own racehorses in a stud, which won hundreds of victories. But after the death of the Queen, this tradition could come to an end. Her son and successor King Charles III. would like to sell twelve of the horses, reports the English newspaper “Daily Mail”.
The animals are said to be offered for sale at auction. Among them is the stallion “Just Fine”, who has just won the first race in favor of the king. The horse “Love Affairs” is also to be put up for sale. It galloped to the Queen’s last win of her lifetime in September – two days before her death. The sale of the dozen horses is only the beginning, more are to follow, writes the “Daily Mail”.
A source close to the Royal Stud at Sandringham is quoted as saying that racing there could even come to a complete halt within the next few years: “The Royal Stud could be a museum in three years. That would be a shame.” The king currently owns 60 racehorses and 38 broodmares, inherited from his mother.
In addition, 30 foals are expected next year, which could fetch particularly high sales prices – they will be the last horses bred in the possession of Queen Elizabeth II. But Charles apparently does not share the Queen’s hobby.
The links between the royals and the horseracing industry will remain, a source close to the royals told the Daily Mail: “The desire is to continue the traditions and links with Royal Ascot, but not to the same extent like Her Majesty who had a passion for it.”
Queen Elizabeth II’s love of horses was with her all her life. Even when she was older, she still showed herself on horseback and visited her animals.
Her passion for Corgis was also legendary. She is said to have owned more than 30 dogs of the breed during her tenure. The two corgis she owned at the end of her life are now in the care of Sarah Ferguson, Prince Andrew’s ex-wife. For her 63rd birthday, Ferguson posted some pictures with the dogs on Instagram.
