What do members of the royal family actually give each other for a birthday or for Christmas – a question that is even answered from time to time. But Prince William has also been wrong about Kate. It would therefore be advisable for Prince William to start thinking about a suitable gift for his wife, because she will be 41 in January next year, shortly after Christmas.

In the Peter Crouch podcast, Prince William commented as a guest that he had been really wrong with a gift from his wife. He gave his beloved binoculars at a very early stage in their relationship and Kate was anything but enthusiastic about this gift.

The couple met in 2001 while studying at the University of St. Andrews. “It was early in the courtship phase,” William said of his embarrassing gift, ironically adding, “I think that sealed the connection.” As Crouch laughed on the podcast, Prince William continued, “It didn’t go well. To be honest, I have no idea today why I bought her the binoculars. I thought it was a good idea at the time.”

Noticing that Kate wasn’t too keen on the gift, the prince was particularly excited, saying, “Look how far you can see with that!” Her answer, rather annoyed and unenthusiastic: “Well, it’s a pair of binoculars”.

But Duchess Kate has had to worry about gifts to the royal family in the past. The British tabloid portal “Hello” reported that Kate, unlike her husband, should have a “hand for the right gift”. On her first ever Christmas at Sandringham with the Queen, Kate conjured up a batch of homemade chutney using her grandmother’s special recipe. The Duchess said this in an ITV documentary on the occasion of the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September 2022.

“She [the Queen] really cares,” Kate said in the documentary. “I was worried about what to get the Queen for Christmas. I thought, ‘Gosh, what should I get her?’ I thought back to what I would give my own grandparents. And I thought, ‘I’m going to make her something myself.’ What could go horribly wrong. But I decided to make chutney using Grandma’s recipe.”

Duchess Kate was able to breathe a sigh of relief, the gift was well received: “I was a little worried,” Kate continued, “but the next day I noticed that the glass was already on the table.”
