You’d think growing up as the daughter of actors Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis would give you a sense of self-confidence. But Lily-Rose Depp, who is following in the footsteps of her famous parents professionally, explains in an interview with “i-D Magazin” how sensitive she really is and how much effort her new role has cost her.
Depp’s renewed confidence is partly due to her current role on The Idol. In it she plays alongside musician The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, a singer with mental health problems. The goal of the serial singer is clear: she wants to regain her title of sexiest pop star in America.
For her role, the American-French actress had to push her limits, even if she felt uncomfortable at times. The Weeknd helped her a lot with that: “When we talk about trust and comfort, I had to go to a lot of really vulnerable places on the show. Abel was the best partner I could have ever asked for. He had my back and I stood behind him. I just felt so free and liberated, so powerful,” Lily-Rose Depp said of the on-set experience.
This newly won self-confidence also prompted her to appear very revealingly for “i-D Magazin”. In a series of snaps shot by Karim Sadli, Johnny Depp’s daughter can be seen wearing a see-through dress among other things.
But Lily-Rose also admits in the interview that she needs a little kick in her life: “I like the fear a bit,” she says. The 23-year-old is often driven by adrenaline: “Wow, I’m so nervous, I feel so challenged, how on earth am I supposed to pull this off?” The famous actor’s daughter also doubts herself from time to time. But then she uses the fear and nervousness positively as a challenge for her projects: “If you’re not afraid, then what’s the point? I like the fear a bit.”
