The Canadian musician The Weeknd (33) just reached the record of 100 million listeners on Spotify within a month. Now the prestigious Guinness Book of World Records has officially declared the 33-year-old the “statistically most popular musician on the planet”, adding: “And nobody else even comes close”.
The record collectors of the Guinness Book, based in the British capital London, attest the artist two world records in their article. According to this, The Weeknd has the most monthly listeners on Spotify, namely – as of March 20 – an incredible 111.4 million, which means that the superstar has already easily surpassed his record from the previous month.
The singer is also the first artist to hit 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify. In view of such fable numbers, the competition is far behind, as the Guinness Book of Records also notes. Miley Cyrus (30), for example, is currently in second place in the Spotify ranking with over 82.4 million listeners – and is almost 30 million monthly listeners behind The Weeknd.
In third place is Shakira (46) with 81.6 million, followed by Ariana Grande (29) with 80.6 and Taylor Swift (33) with 80.2 million. The Weeknd’s first male competitor is Ed Sheeran (32) with 77.5 million listeners a month.
The Canadian artist has released five studio albums in the past ten years, ranging from 2013’s “Kiss Land” to 2022’s “Dawn FM”. new remix “Die For You”, which he released together with Ariana Grande. The song from 2016 had recently become a hit on TikTok.
